Abaci (plural form of abacus) were found in ancient civilizations. The Greeks used gigantic marble abaci and the Romans used three types of abaci. Chinese invented wooden abaci which had been transported to Japan later in its abacus history. The oldest known abacus was made of white marble and found on the island of Salamis, Greece.

In the early 1950’s, an idea occurred to Bette to use tempera paint to cover typing errors. The product was originally called "Mistake Out." In 1956, using her kitchen blender she combined paint with other chemicals to develop and refine her product.
